First Nations Performance at the Heritage Days 2017

The annual Servus Heritage Festival had lots of entertainment to offer over the weekend event. One of the performances that really stood out was the Aboriginal Pavilion. First on stage was seven-year-old Noah Green. Noah is a First Nations drummer and singer. His Grandmother Carol Powder is his teacher and also the head of an all female drum circle. We will be seeing lots of Noah Green in the years ahead. To find out more about Noah and his Grandmother's drumming group visit Chubby Cree on Face book and listen to their videos.

The next two performers were Curt Young and Jared Sowan. These guys usually have their own gigs, but for the festival teamed up to represent on their heritage stage.

Curt Young  is from Saskatawan and belongs to the Saulteaux-Cree First Nation.  He has been performing for over twenty years and has an impressive amount of accomplishments and awards. Curt is a Blues Rock artist, singer & song writer and is a musician that can play multiple instruments. It is mentioned in his bio that "He is a 2010 nominee for Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards for Best Blues and a 2010 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Nominee for Best Blues album for his first CD, Edge of Shadow. 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards Nominee for his Album Northern Equinox, for Best Instrumental CD."
Curt is also the co-founder of the group Young Medicine. Not only do they do a lot of traveling as musicians, but also as people who have a strong influence on young lives and spreads their light to be a positive force on the earth. To connect with Curt you can find him on Face book @ Young Medicine.

You will notice there is three guitar pick tattooed on Curt's right hand.

Jared Sowan is a very talented artist who has been a musician from the time he could walk and talk. Sowan has also won awards and acquired a reputation as a great musician. The YEG Live quoted Jared as "nominated and won two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for Best Male Artist of the Year and Best Blues Album. In 2007, Jared also won Best Blues Album in Milwaukee at The Indian Summer Music Award."
Jared is originally from the Swan River First Nations in Northern Alberta and now living in Edmonton. To connect with Jared you can find him on Face book @ Jared Sowan.

Being a professional musician of many instruments, especially the piano, it is no surprise to see that Jared has a Treble Clef tattoo on his forearm.

For their last performance on the Heritage Festival Aboriginal stage, Young and Sowan were joined by a few young ladies from the audience to help out with the percussions and also a young man named Lakoda who was the sacred hoop dancer.
